Nottingham Forest loanee linked with Premier League transfer amid sparkling form

Nottingham Forest youngster Brennan Johnson is said to be attracting plenty of interest, amid his sparkling form on loan.

The 19-year-old will spend the rest of the season with Lincoln City, after Reds boss Chris Hughton decided against recalling him early.

But his performances for the Imps have reportedly seen him catch the eye of a number of clubs.

GARIBALDI RED: Do Nottingham Forest need to sign a striker in the window?

Burnley, Leeds United and Brentford are all casting admiring glances, according to The Athletic, with Belgium outfit Royale Union Saint-Gilloise “pondering a bid”.

It is said: “Forest are reluctant to sell unless somebody tables a significant bid that is too good to turn down, while they would be unlikely to sell to another Championship club.”

Johnson has scored seven goals in 23 appearances for Lincoln this term.

Forest manager Hughton recently said he felt the teenager was better off staying on loan, having pondered bringing him back to the City Ground.

“At the moment, probably my thoughts are more very much that he’s better off there,” he said.

“We look forward to him hopefully having a very good season. And then the summer becomes a different story.”

His Imps counterpart, Michael Appleton, confirmed Johnson would remain at Sincil Bank last week - but admitted the Reds would likely have had other offers.

“I’m sure Forest would have been inundated with potential options to send him elsewhere for the second half of the season,” Appleton said.

“I’d like to think there’s a trust between Forest and ourselves. We look after the player properly and there’s a great chance he’ll continue to develop while he’s with us.

“I’m sure that played a huge part in him staying here because, there’s no doubt about it, he would have had other options.”
