Nottingham Forest loan move explained as defender details new signings' impact

Nottingham Forest’s January signings have given the team a timely boost in their bid to climb the Championship table.

Loanees Filip Krovinovic and James Garner, and striker Glenn Murray have all “hit the ground running” and  made a big difference  for the Reds, according to teammate Cyrus Christie.

The trio have quickly made an impact, with Murray having netted a brace on his full debut at Wycombe Wanderers last weekend.

Three points at Adams Park lifted Forest up to 18th in the Championship table ahead of the visit of Bournemouth tomorrow.

Transfer decision

Chris Hughton was a key factor in Manchester United’s decision to sanction James Garner’s loan move to Nottingham Forest.

Garner was on loan at Watford in the first half of the campaign, but struggled for regular game time following a managerial change.

He has quickly made a positive impression at Forest, however, putting in standout displays in his first two appearances.

It lasted barely an hour before he was hooked by then-manager Sabri Lamouchi. Clearly short on fitness, thrown into a team which had seen a number of changes, he struggled. Badly.

Lamouchi said afterwards, without naming names, some of the alterations he had made to the starting XI were a “mistake”.

Clough's impact

Club great Martin O’Neill has reflected on the incredible impact the legendary Brian Clough had at Nottingham Forest.

The Northern Irishman was part of the team which famously conquered Europe under Clough, as well as securing honours on the domestic front.

The former Reds boss was renowned for his own unique style of management - a formula for success which worked wonders at the City Ground.

O’Neill says he didn’t always agree with Clough’s methods at the time - but there’s no arguing with the medals which are now kept in his attic.
