Nottingham Forest linked with summer move for World Cup finalist goalkeeper

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for World Cup finalist goalkeeper Danijel Subasic.

The experienced 35-year-old, who was between the posts for Croatia as they finished runners-up to France at the last World Cup, will be a free agent this summer when he leaves AS Monaco.

Subasic has been with the Ligue 1 side for the past eight-and-a-half years but is set to depart when his contract runs out at the end of this month.

There is reportedly a fair bit of interest in his signature, with suggestions the Reds could be among those keen.

According to Greek media outlet sport24, Subasic is “said to have been proposed to Olympiacos”, who, like Forest, are owned by Evangelos Marinakis.

The report adds: “Other sources make it clear that the case was not about (Olympiacos), but about Evangelos Marinakis’ other team, Nottingham Forest.”

Get French Football News meanwhile, have claimed “multiple Middle Eastern sides” are keen on the shot-stopper.

Subasic started his career with Zadar and Hajduk Split, in his homeland, before joining Monaco in 2012 and going on to make more than 200 appearances for the club.

It is reported his “annual earnings exceeded 1m euros” with the French outfit.

Brice Samba is currently first-choice goalkeeper for the Reds, with Jordan Smith likely to be back-up when the season restarts.

It is understood Arijanet Muric will not be part of Sabri Lamouchi’s squad for the remaining games, following an unsuccessful loan from Manchester City.

Smith is out of contract this summer, however, and the suggestion is he could find himself moving on; likewise Luke Steele, who is on loan at Millwall.

With Costel Pantilimon - on loan at Omonia Nicosia, in Cyprus - also expected to be told he has no future at the City Ground, that would leave Forest in need of strengthening in the goalkeeping department.
