Nottingham Forest linked with PSG transfer alternative after Everton talks

Nottingham Forest could reportedly turn their attention to former Crystal Palace midfielder Cheikhou Kouyaté after their 'failure' to sign Idrissa Gueye from Paris Saint-Germain.

Gueye is said to be closing in on a return to the Premier League with former club Everton rather than the Reds, despite attempts from Forest to hijack the transfer. The offer of a three-year contract for the 32-year-old was reportedly rejected in favour of going back to Merseyside.

Now the Reds could apparently turn their attention to Kouyaté, a Senegal national team colleague of Gueye. The Senegal international is a free agent after leaving the south London club earlier this summer at the end of his contract at Selhurst Park.

Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna is reporting that Forest could look at Kouyaté after the 'failure in the Gueye case'. Aouna adds that 'Turkish clubs are also interested'.

The 32-year-old has made more than 250 appearances since initially arriving in England with West Ham United in 2014. Some 27 of that total came last season at Palace under Patrick Vieira, a season which was disrupted domestically by Senegal's successful Africa Cup of Nations campaign during which the midfielder featured in all but one match.

Could Kouyaté be the answer in midfield? Have your say in the comments...
