Nottingham Forest linked with playmaker dubbed 'the best' by Manchester United legend

Nottingham Forest are reportedly battling with arch-rivals Derby County to try to sign former Manchester United youngster Ravel Morrison.

Boss Chris Hughton is keen to strengthen his attacking resources during the January transfer window, as he looks to get the Reds climbing the Championship table.

Winger Anthony Knockaert counts as the only addition so far, following the extension of his loan deal from Fulham.

But Football Insider claim Forest “are locked in a battle” with the Rams over playmaker Morrison.

The 27-year-old is a free agent, after his contract with Dutch club ADO Den Haag was terminated by mutual agreement earlier this month.

It is said the Reds are eyeing up Morrison and have “expressed an interest”, but they are not the only ones keen.

Newly-appointed Derby manager Wayne Rooney is said to be a big admirer of the attacking midfielder, who he knows from his time at Old Trafford.

Rooney has “registered an interest” in signing Morrison, according to the report, as have Huddersfield Town.

Kasimpasa and another Turkish club have also been linked and are said to have “made enquiries”.

But it is claimed the Jamaica international has a “preference to find a club in the UK”, having already “rejected interest from clubs in the Middle East”.

Football Insider add Morrison is set to train with a club in England this week, in a bid to keep up his fitness.

The former England Under-21 man started out at Manchester United, and counts the likes of West Ham United, Lazio, Ostersund and Sheffield United among his old clubs.

Ex-United defender Rio Ferdinand has previously said his old boss Sir Alex Ferguson thought Morrison was "the best player he had seen" as a 14-year-old.
