Nottingham Forest linked with key appointment as Chris Hughton set for Evangelos Marinakis meeting

It is set to be a summer of change at the City Ground as Nottingham Forest aim to move on from a miserable season.

Reds boss Chris Hughton is to meet with owner Evangelos Marinakis to discuss the campaign - which ended on Saturday with his side finishing 17th - and look ahead to 2021/22.

The target for next term is to be pushing for a top six Championship finish, and that will mean incomings and outgoings among the playing squad as Hughton puts his stamp on the dressing room.

But there could also be significant changes behind the scenes in the next few weeks.

A new-look recruitment team is said to be being assembled, ahead of what will be a crucial transfer window.

Forest have been criticised for some of their transfer business in the past, and there is a determination to get it right this summer to give Hughton the best possible chance of achieving success.

In addition to George Syrianos, who is currently head of analytics at Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart, taking up a data and analytics role, The Telegraph report Chris Brass will take on a senior recruitment post across the academy and first-team.

Brass has held various assistant manager and caretaker manager roles and was previously head of football operations at Wigan Athletic.

Asked about the potential changes, Hughton told NottinghamshireLive after his team’s 2-1 defeat to Preston North End at the weekend: “What is obvious is the season has finished and what I will do is sit down with the owner and my bosses, and speak about going into next season.

“It will be the normal stuff - where we could have done better and players we can bring in.

“I would like to think there would be a wild field of discussions.

“I’m always conscious that I’m the manager and I have an owner and bosses who are very much above me.”

Talk of a new recruitment set-up comes as Reds chief executive Ioannis Vrentzos is understood to be considering his role at the City Ground.

He is believed to be weighing up his options, which could include taking on a modified role for Forest or returning to Greece, where he remains on the board at fellow Marinakis-owned side Olympiacos.

Vrentzos took up the position of CEO when shipping magnate Marinakis bought the Reds four years ago, in May 2017.

He has come under fire from supporters during his time Trentside for Forest’s recruitment strategy, as well as overseeing a significant turnover of managers.
