Nottingham Forest linked with January move for £16m-rated Olympiacos attacker

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a January move for Olympiacos attacker Kostas Fortounis.

The 28-year-old netted his fourth goal of the season for the fellow Evangelos Marinakis-owned side at the weekend, helping them to a 2-1 victory over Panetolikos.

But that is said to have done little to ease a tense relationship with Olympiacos boss Pedro Martins, who substituted Fortounis at half-time of that clash.

And, according to Greek website enwsi, Martins is keen to move the player on - with the City Ground a possible destination.

The report claims Martins “sent a message to the administration to send Kostakis to Nottingham”.

Fortounis joined Olympiacos in 2014 from FC Kaiserslautern, and also counts Trikala and Asteras Tripolis among his former clubs.

In the summer of 2019, he was reportedly being eyed up for a big money move to the Premier League.

West Ham United were said to have held talks over a £16m deal for the Greece international, who came highly recommended by sporting director at the time Mario Husillos.

A versatile player, Fortounis can operate as a winger or an attacking midfielder, in the no.10 role.

Reds boss Chris Hughton is looking to bolster his attacking resources during the transfer window, as he aims to strengthen his goal-shy squad.

However, only minor tweaks are expected, with the priority being to oversee departures in order to work with a smaller group.
