Nottingham Forest linked with double Besiktas swoop as club hit with Sheffield United fine

Your Nottingham Forest headlines on Wednesday, May 17.

Survival and relegation permutations

For the final time this season, Nottingham Forest are in action at the City Ground on Saturday - and the occasion is huge.

The 90 minutes against Arsenal could go some way to determining whether Premier League football will be played again on Trentside next term. There is much at stake.

With two games to go, the Reds have their fate in their own hands as they sit three points above the relegation zone. However, the battle to beat the drop remains far from over.

Fine following pitch invasion

Nottingham Forest have been fined for the pitch invasion which took place after last season’s play-off semi-final second leg against Sheffield United at the City Ground.

The Reds have been fined £50,000 for breaching FA rule E20, which involved “failing to ensure that its spectators - and all persons purporting to be its supporters or followers - conducted themselves in an orderly fashion”. An independent regulatory commission imposed the fine following a hearing, with £25,000 suspended until the end of next season, provided there are no further breaches of the rule.

A statement from the Football Association said: “An independent Regulatory Commission has fined Nottingham Forest FC £50,000 for breaching FA Rule E20 at its game against Sheffield United FC on Tuesday 17 May 2022 in the EFL Championship.

Forest plan set out

Nottingham Forest will continue to tackle the challenge in front of them head on as they prepare for the final two games which will decide their Premier League fate.

Head coach Steve Cooper has made a point of openly discussing the Reds’ situation with his squad throughout the season, being keen not to have any “elephants in the room”. It is an approach he will maintain as the battle for survival reaches its climax.

Forest are in control of their own destiny, sitting outside of the relegation zone, but it remains nerve-wrackingly tight at the bottom of the table. And Cooper’s men are aware they have two tough matches ahead to see the campaign out, with Arsenal visiting the City Ground on Saturday and a trip to Crystal Palace on the final day.

Double transfer swoop links

Nottingham Forest are looking to sign Besiktas pair Nathan Redmond and Romain Saiss, it is claimed.

Redmond spent six years at Southampton where he scored 30 goals in over 200 appearances for the Saints. He also had spells at Norwich and Birmingham City during his time in English football.

Former Wolves defender Saiss has been linked with a move to the City Ground for some time with the Moroccan international spending six years at Molineux before moving to the Turkish side last summer.
