Nottingham Forest linked with £6m-rated striker - along with West Brom and Bundesliga heavyweights

Nottingham Forest have been linked with Peterborough United hot-shot Ivan Toney - but there is seemingly plenty of competition for the striker.

The 24-year-old bagged 26 goals in 39 appearances for Posh before the League One season was curtailed and has a year left to run on his contract.

BristolLive claim he is on the Reds’ radar, as well as catching the eye of Championship promotion rivals West Bromwich Albion and Scottish giants Rangers.

Bristol City were said to be keen in January, though were put off by a £13m pricetag and brought in Forest target Nahki Wells instead.

Bundesliga heavyweights RB Leipzig can now also apparently be added to Toney’s list of admirers, with Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony tweeting - in response to a fan’s question - that a German team is monitoring the forward.

The report adds: “Toney has 12 months remaining on his contract at London Road, which is effectively forcing Posh into a sale, and BristolLive understands the club expected between £5-6m.”

Asked if Posh have any plans to sell Toney, MacAnthony tweeted: “We could keep him & not sell at all. But have agreement with player to go to higher level if deal is right. But me/partners would be delighted if he stayed.”

Toney started his career at Northampton Town, before joining Newcastle United in 2015.

He had loan spells at Barnsley, Shrewsbury, Scunthorpe United and Wigan Athletic before heading to Peterborough two years ago.
