Nottingham Forest-linked goals ace speaks out on his future amid transfer speculation

Nottingham Forest-linked striker Ivan Toney has admitted his future lies away from Peterborough United, amid intense speculation about a move.

The Reds were said to have the 24-year-old on their radar this summer, though have since added former Charlton Athletic front man Lyle Taylor to their squad.

A host of clubs have reportedly been chasing Toney, including Forest’s arch-rivals Derby County, Celtic, Rangers, Brentford, Brighton, West Bromwich Albion and Bristol City.

The forward is in demand after a prolific season in front of goal, in which he finished as League One top scorer, netting 26 times in 39 games for Posh.

Eight clubs are interested in Toney’s services, Peterborough’s director of football Barry Fry has confirmed, while co-owner Darragh MacAnthony has admitted a deal was agreed with an unnamed club to sell the striker a fortnight ago.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Toney says he is still focused on Posh but feels the time is right for a move.

He said: “Peterborough brought me in to do a job for them, which was to score goals.

"In the past they brought in strikers like Britt Assombalonga, Dwight Gayle and then shipped them on.

"They know what they're doing. They get their strikers scoring goals and get money for them so I think it's a business for them.

“Obviously it would have been sweeter getting promoted but I feel like from a personal view it's time to move on.

“For now though I'm still a Peterborough player and I've just got to focus on playing football.”

The former Newcastle United striker added: “I want to play at the highest possible level, so the Premier League. We'll see what happens and see who comes along.

"You've got to be confident otherwise there's no point setting out to try and play at the top level.

“I feel like my ability will get me there, whether it's now, next season or whenever it is, I'm sure I'll be able to look after myself in the Premier League and do a good job."
