Nottingham Forest legend Roy Keane tipped to land manager's job working for ex-teammates

Nottingham Forest legend Roy Keane is among the bookies' favourites to be the next Salford City manager.

The League Two side sacked Graham Alexander this week despite an unbeaten start to the season, winning two games and drawing three.

They are hugely ambitious with the club owned by Keane's former Manchester United teammates Gary and Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Ryan Giggs - meaning Keane would have to answer to them if he got the job.

Former Oldham manager Paul Scholes has taken charge of the team on a temporary basis.

Keane is second favourite to land the job with former United coach Warren Joyce leading the way.

Another Forest legend, Nigel Clough, is rated as a 20/1 shot while ex-Reds boss Steve Cotterill is 12/1.

Keane has not been a manager for almost 10 years after leaving Ipswich. Since then he has been number two at Aston Villa, with the Republic of Ireland and at Forest under Martin O'Neill.

Next Salford City manager odds

Warren Joyce - 4/5

Roy Keane - 4/1

Danny Cowley - 5/1

Paul Scholes - 8/1

Paul Cook - 10/1

Steve Cotterill - 12/1

Richie Wellens - 16/1

Keith Hill - 20/1

Nigel Clough - 20/1

Michael Flynn - 20/1
