Nottingham Forest legend Roy Keane makes rare admission

Nottingham Forest legend Roy Keane admits he would have found it tough to cope with the coronavirus shutdown if he was still playing.

The season has been suspended until at least the end of April due to the global pandemic.

And following last night's announcement by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the nation is effectively on lockdown, with people being urged to stay at home in a bid to slow down the spread of the virus.

It is unclear when football will be able to resume, though the authorities have vowed to complete the current campaign at some point.

Keane says he is missing the game "dreadfully" - though understands that people's health must be the main priority.

"It just has to go on the back burner for a few months," the former Forest and Manchester United star told Sky Sports.

"Hopefully, this will pass over the next few months and we'll get back watching the game and loving the game.

"I'm certain I would have struggled, when as a player. I'm missing it dreadfully now but obviously that's just from the outside looking in.

"It must be difficult for players out there - but, again, we have to look at the bigger picture.

"People's health is at stake, people are dying, and it's a difficult time for everyone.

"But hopefully, it will pass and we get through it."
