Nottingham Forest legend makes exciting prediction about Manchester United prospect

Manchester United loanee James Garner arrived at the City Ground for a second successive loan spell this summer after initially joining Nottingham Forest at the end of last January.

In his 20 appearances for Forest last term he netted four times and impressive many around the club, so much so that he was brought back ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

It has not all been plain sailing for the 20-year-old this time around as the Reds endured a difficult start to the season.

However, Garner looks to be rediscovering some of his best form now under new head coach Steve Cooper.

Forest came from behind late on to beat Bristol City 2-1 at Ashton Gate on Tuesday evening - their fourth successive win.

Speaking to Matt Davies in the Garibaldi Red podcast, former Forest and Man United forward Garry Birtles believes the "gifted" Garner will play a key part in the ongoing resurgence since Cooper's arrival.

"I think going forward in the second half (at Bristol City), it was a mixed bag from pretty much everybody but it doesn't matter, that will come," said Birtles.

"He (Garner) will be part of something that's pretty good because he's a gifted player and can play a big part in us going forward this season.

"I think now, Steve's getting in his own mind his best starting 11 and that's always something important when you've got that on your mind, who your best starting 11 are, before any substitutions were made, there's so much on the bench if need be that Steve Cooper can change things with.

"When he thought he was right changing, he did change it and you like to see that, those changes worked (against Bristol City)."
