Nottingham Forest, Leeds United have 'unanimous' message over Premier League promotion claims advisor

Nottingham Forest and the rest of the Championship top six are 'unanimous' in the view that the season must be completed.

That is the view of Preston North End advisor Peter Ridsdale as the Premier League and English Football League are suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As it stands, the season will resume on April 3 with nine games to play in the race for a place in the top flight.

However, that is far from certain with various ideas being floated if the suspension is extended.

One of those is to void the season, something Ridsdale says Forest, Preston, Leeds, West Brom, Fulham and Brentford are against.

"It's very important the Football League take a stance. From my point of view it's important the Football League take a stance before the Premier League do," he told Sky Sports News.

"We're at a point in the season where Championship clubs are trying to get promoted. The riches of the Football League are dwarfed by the Premier League.

"We think it's very important the season is completed.

"Talking to the six clubs at the top of the Championship, there is a unanimous view we must complete the season.

"It's not just self interest. If the season were to finish today we'd be in the top six, but with nine games to go, any of the top 11 can get in.

"It's about what is fair and right. The financial impact of not finishing the season is horrific.

"What do you do with season ticket money and media rights that have been sold? These questions become very complicated if you don't complete the season."

On Saturday, Brighton chief executive Paul Barber called for the current top two - Leeds and West Brom - to be added to an extended Premier League next term is the season is not concluded, something Ridsdale scoffed at.

"I've never heard anything so nonsensical in my life. They're six points ahead of Fulham with 27 points to play for," he said.

"Who is to say they will go up? I'm not saying they won't eventually, but you have to decide that over 46 games."
