Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and West Brom could return to action on our screens before the Premier League

The Championship has laid out plans to return to action on June 20, a move that could see Nottingham Forest back on our screens before the Premier League.

The EFL are planning to continue the current campaign next month in a move that they hope will see the remaining fixtures completed before the end of July, according to the Express .

Premier League clubs returned to training on Tuesday and with managers wanting a whole month of preparation before returning to games, the Championship could get beat the top tier by returning first.

Meetings are ongoing, the report makes clear, but June 20 is the suggested date with each team having nine games still to play.

Clubs are hoping to rattle through games to finish the regular season on July 18, leaving 13 days to complete the playoffs.

Unlike the Premier League, Championship teams are yet to return to training, but they will soon follow suit.

According to the report, Championship clubs will undergo tests before the end of this week ahead of a return to training on Monday.

Clubs are set to be handed a 47-page dossier made up of social distancing protocols.

As things stand, Leeds United are top, one point ahead of second-placed West Brom.

Fulham, Brentford, Forest and Preston make up the playoffs, while Charlton, Luton and Barnsley are in the bottom three.
