Nottingham Forest learn who they will face in Carabao Cup first round

Nottingham Forest will take on Barnsley at Oakwell in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

The four-time winners will head north to South Yorkshire to face Gerhard Struber's side in an all-Championship affair.

The tie will be played on the weekend of September 5 and will be the first competitive clash of the season for Sabri Lamouchi's side.

Elsewhere, Harrogate Town will take on Tranmere Rovers as they make their debut in the competition while rivals Derby County will face newly-promoted League Two outfit Barrow.

The clash will kick-off Forest's 2020-21 campaign away from home, two weeks before the league campaign gets underway.

Forest and Barnsley met twice last season, winning one and losing one as the Tykes narrowly avoided the drop on the final day of the season, helped by a Wigan Athletic points deduction.

The game is likely to be played behind closed doors with details on how fans can watch the game to be announced at a later date.
