Nottingham Forest leading transfer chase as speculation swirls over midfielder

Forest leading Krovinovic chase

Nottingham Forest are closing in on a deal to land Filip Krovinovic, according to reports in Portugal.

Record claims the Reds are in advanced negotiations with Benfica with personal terms the only matter to be concluded before the transfer can proceed.

That is at odds with a report from the Telegraph at the weekend which claimed the midfielder was set to be recalled from his loan spell at the Baggies and sent to Hadjuk Split.

Record claims that while Split, PAOK and Dinamo Zagreb are all interested in the midfielder it is Forest who are preparing to "receive" him.

Krovinovic has been on loan at West Bromwich Albion for the last 18 months and has made 12 appearances for them so far, but only two of them have come since manager Sam Allardyce was appointed.

The player's agent, Marjan Sisic, said in an interview with 24 Sata that his client had a number of offers on the table amid claims Benfica are not keen on sending the player to Split.

“We have several offers from abroad for Filip, we are considering together with West Bromwich and Benfica what to do,” he said.

Clough to leave?

Zach Clough could be set to leave Nottingham Forest after four years in the wilderness at the City Ground amid reports that Wigan are considering a swoop for the midfielder.

The former Bolton ace has not featured for the Reds since the 2-1 defeat to Hull City in the FA Cup back in January 2018.

His last game in professional football came in the 2018/19 season when he spent the campaign on loan at League One Rochdale where he made 13 appearances, scoring one goal.

Clough had signed for Forest for a reported fee of £3m in 2017, but has played just 31 games in all competitions and is free to leave the club in the summer when his contract expires.

A hero returns - permanently

Andy Reid has sealed a permanent return to Nottingham Forest after being confirmed as the head coach of the Reds' under-23s.

The former Tottenham midfielder had been in charge on a caretaker basis since September, but Forest have now confirmed he has been appointed in the position long-term.

Reid, who enjoyed two spells at the club as a player which spanned 10 years, had a crucial role in helping the Under-23s to lift the Professional Development League North title last season.

And speaking to the Reds' website about his new job, Reid said he was thrilled to have landed the job.

"I am delighted to have accepted the role," said Reid, who will leave his coaching role with Ireland under-18s.

"Everyone knows my affiliation with this club, so to now become head coach of the Under-23s is really special for me."

Cotterill on the mend

Former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cotterill is out of intensive care after suffering from coronavirus.

Cotterill, now in charge at Shrewsbury, was taken to hospital in Bristol last week following an outbreak of Covid-19 at the League One club.

The 56-year-old managed Forest from 2011 to 2012 and memorably led their neighbours Notts County to the League Two title in 2010.

But condition has improved and he is now out of ICU.

Shrews assistant boss Aaron Wilbraham admitted there had been a great deal of concern over Cotterill's struggle with the illness and is now glad he is on the mend.

“It was scary news and it did affect me,” he told the Press Association.
