Nottingham Forest launch second bid for Derby County defender

Nottingham Forest have submitted another offer for Derby County defender Lee Buchanan but it has been rejected, according to reports.

Sun journalist Alan Nixon says the Reds returned with an improved bid for the left-back as Chris Hughton looks to secure his second signing of the summer.

But Nixon said the Rams have turned down the offer despite it being a better package.

Nixon said: "Forest. New and improved bid for Lee Buchanan.

"Derby said no. Latest package definitely better … but not yet enough."

Derby are determined to keep hold of their prized asset with Wayne Rooney issuing an emphatic response to questions about the defender's future at the weekend.

"None of my players are going anywhere,” said Rooney following the Rams’ 2-1 friendly defeat at Salford City on Saturday.

"Obviously, we haven't got enough players as it is.

"So none of my players will be leaving the club this transfer window unless it is to benefit them, whether it is a loan, but that can only happen if we are allowed to bring players in."

Buchanan has a year to run on his current contract, although there is an option of a further 12 months.

Forest are eager to bolster their left-back position after Nicholas Ioannou left to join Como on loan in the summer while Gaetan Bong has been told he is free to find another club.

Forest reportedly face a fight for Derby County defender Lee Buchanan, with Celtic joining the race.

The Reds desperately need a new left-back with options short for manager Chris Hughton in that position.

But Forest will reportedly have to fight off competition from Scottish giants Celtic should they wish to sign the young defender.

The Daily Record claims Celtic, who are already tracking Derby right-back Nathan Byrne, are also keen on Buchanan.
