Nottingham Forest 'join Celtic' in transfer race for £4m-rated striker

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for in-demand Hibernian striker Kevin Nisbet.

Bringing in extra firepower and strengthening his attack is a priority for Reds boss Chris Hughton this summer.

His team were among the Championship’s lowest scorers last season as they battled towards the bottom end of the table.

The aim for the upcoming campaign is to challenge for a top six spot - something which requires Hughton to coax more goals from his squad.

Forest currently have Lewis Grabban and Lyle Taylor as senior forwards on the books, after Glenn Murray announced his decision to hang up his boots in May.

Meanwhile, Nuno Da Costa and Will Swan have returned from loan spells at Royal Excel Mouscron and Port Vale, respectively, but what part they play remains to be seen, with the latter potentially benefitting from another stint elsewhere.

It means at least one more front man is required before the transfer window closes.

And the Daily Mail claim the Reds are keen on 24-year-old Nisbet - but they would face significant competition for his signature.

Scottish giants Celtic are said to be eyeing him up, along with Swansea City, Brentford and Russian outfit FC Krasnodar, while Birmingham City reportedly retain an interest after a £3.2m bid was rejected in January.

Hibs are said to be “prepared to speak to potential suitors”, but have no need to sell and have placed a £4m price tag on the Scot’s head - with his former club Dunfermline due a significant sell-on fee.

Nisbet has been a teammate of Forest defender Scott McKenna while on international duty for Scotland at Euro 2020. He came off the bench in all three of their matches, against Czech Republic, England and Croatia.

A haul of 23 goals in 32 appearances for Dunfermline during 2019/20 earned the striker a move to Easter Road 12 months ago, and he went on to find the net 18 times last time out.

He started out at Partick Thistle and also counts East Stirlingshire, Ayr United, Dumbarton and Raith Rovers as his former clubs.
