Nottingham Forest issue transfer update on Manchester United loanee James Garner

Nottingham Forest have no plans to extend James Garner's loan from Manchester United into next season, for now at least.

Garner, 20, has been impressive at the City Ground since joining in January after his spell at Watford was cut short. Since switching second-tier clubs, he's scored three times in 14 appearances including against Forest's fierce rivals Derby.

His eye-catching form in the centre of midfield has alerted other clubs, according to his agent, who said last week that Brighton, Norwich and Rangers are all interested in signing the United midfielder.

“Third loan? – I honestly don’t know,” agent Steven Beck said. “I had a couple of chats with John Murtough last week, but I’m so relaxed on the situation, as is James because things are going so well for him.

"James has put himself in a great position where he’s probably going to have, if he does go out on loan again, the majority of the Championship and I would be amazed if one or two Premier League clubs don’t try and do something. I know Brighton like him, I know Norwich like him. I know Rangers are really keen on him as well.”

In response, Forest manager Chris Hughton was asked whether Garner's form would make a new loan for next season more difficult.

“At this moment, my thoughts are very much on what he’s giving us and how he’s helping us in the best way he can," Hughton told NottinghamshireLive.

“It’s also about us helping his development and us having the best relationship with Manchester United we can. And then we’ll see what happens.

“He’s not our player, so it’s very difficult to talk about him in any terms. All I can say is the relationship with United has been very good and we’re delighted with what James is giving us.”
