Nottingham Forest issue statement after owner is diagnosed with coronavirus ahead of Bristol City game

Nottingham Forest have said they are taking advice from medical professionals after owner Evangelos Marinakis tested positive for coronavirus.

Marikanis was present for Forest's defeat to Millwall on Friday night and announced on social media today that he had tested positive for the virus.

Forest have now issued a statement saying they are consulting professionals over what measures to take.

The statement said: "Nottingham Forest can confirm that owner Evangelos Marinakis has tested positive for the coronavirus.

"Mr Marinakis was diagnosed after showing the first symptoms on his return to Greece yesterday afternoon. During his short stay in Nottingham last week he did not show any symptoms of the virus.

"The club are seeking advice from medical professionals and the relevant governing bodies to ensure the correct measures are taken.

"Until this time the club will be making no further comment."

The news could well impact Bristol City's game against Forest later this month.

With the Robins just five points behind Forest in the race for the play-offs, it is set to be a big game at the City Ground when the two teams meet on March 22.

Marikanis met with the Forest squad on Friday evening and also posed for selfies with supporters.

He revealed on Instagram today that he had tested positive for the virus.

Marikanis said: "The recent virus has 'visited' me and I felt obliged to let the public know.

"I feel good as I take all the necessary measures and I discipline to the doctors' instructions.

"I strongly advise all my fellow citizens to do the same.

"I wish all a quick recovery."

Marikanis is also owner of Olympiacos, who are set to play Wolves this week in the Europa League.

The Greek side are set to make a statement over their plans for the match, with the game already taking place behind closed doors.
