Nottingham Forest 'in the chase' for £1.5m-rated striker ahead of transfer deadline

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for former Stoke City striker Julien Ngoy before next week’s transfer deadline.

The Reds desperately need to find a way of scoring more goals after a miserable start to the new season.

Under-pressure boss Chris Hughton will be looking to arrest a run of four straight league defeats this weekend, when his team visit arch-rivals Derby County - with a Carabao Cup clash at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers to come before then, on Tuesday night.

In their Championship games so far, Forest have found the net just three times. Against the Potters on Saturday, they failed to register a shot on target, and had only two in total across the 90 minutes.

It is a problem they struggled with last term, and Hughton has long identified the need to boost his attacking resources this summer.

The Reds are “in the chase” for Ngoy, according to the Mirror, with Blackpool also said to be in the running.

The 23-year-old currently plays for KAS Eupen, in his Belgium homeland, and has a reported £1.5m price tag on his head.

Ngoy spent part of his youth career with Stoke and made his Premier League debut for the club in December 2016, when he came off the bench in a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal.

He made five top-flight appearances that season, as well as one in the FA Cup.

His time with the Potters included loan spells at Walsall and Grasshoppers, before he joined Eupen last summer.

This term, he has bagged two goals in five league appearances so far.

Forest made midfielder James Garner their fourth signing on Sunday, when he penned a season-long loan deal from Manchester United, having impressed at the City Ground in the second half of last term.

They have also brought in goalkeeper Ethan Horvath, attacking midfielder Philip Zinckernagel and full-back Jordi Osei-Tutu.
