Nottingham Forest in talks with EFL as Evangelos Marinakis coronavirus case confirmed

The English Football League are understood to be in conversation with Nottingham Forest following the news Reds owner Evangelos Marinakis has contracted coronavirus.

An initial discussion is believed to have taken place between the club and the governing body as they look to respond to the situation - and talks are expected to continue throughout the day.

Marinakis posted a message on his official Instagram account saying he had been “visited” by the “recent virus”.

The Greek was at Forest’s City Ground on Friday night for the Championship clash with Millwall - which the hosts lost 3-0 - where he is understood to have met players and staff.

Marinakis’ message on social media said: “The recent virus has ‘visited’ me and I felt obliged to let the public know.

“I feel good as I take all the necessary measures and I discipline to the doctors’ instructions.

“I strongly advise all my fellow citizens to do the same.

“I wish all a quick recovery.”

Neither the club or the EFL have made an official statement about the news.

Sabri Lamouchi’s men are next in action on Saturday, when they make the trip to face Sheffield Wednesday.

Fellow Marinakis-owned club Olympiacos are due to play their Europa League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers behind closed doors in Greece on Thursday, in front of an empty Georgios Karaiskakis stadium, due to the coronavirus outbreak.
