Nottingham Forest in 'talks' with Chelsea over midfielder transfer

Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in Tiemoue Bakayoko, with "talks ongoing" over a move for the Chelsea midfielder.

The 27-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge for around £40million in 2017 after playing a key role in Monaco’s triumph over PSG to claim the Ligue 1 title and becoming a France international. Bakayoko made 43 appearances for Chelsea under Antonio Conte in his debut but has subsequently spent his time away from the club.

Bakayoko was loaned to AC Milan in 2018, followed by a spell back at Monaco and a season with Napoli, before returning to the San Siro with Milan last summer. Currently halfway through a two-year loan deal with the Serie A champions, which includes an option to buy, Forest have been touted with an interest in the midfielder.

He made 18 appearances for Milan last term across all competitions but largely remained on the bench for the latter half of the campaign. Having found himself on the periphery of Stefano Pioli’s side, reports in Italy have claimed that the Reds are keen to bring Bakayoko to the City Ground.

Writing on Twitter, Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Luca Bianchin reported: “Tiémoué Bakayoko is an option for NFFC. Bakayoko could end his two-year loan at Milan to sign with Forest. Talks ongoing to find an agreement on the player’s wages.”

Forest have already made 12 signings this summer, with Lewis O’Brien and Orel Mangala among those brought in to strengthen Steve Copper’s midfield. The Reds are also reported to have agreed a deal for Atalanta’s Remo Freuler, while continuing to be linked with a return move for Manchester United's James Garner.

Elsewhere, Forest have a deal "agreed in principle" for Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis. The total sum is reported to be in the region of £20million and he will likely be paired with current club-record signing Taiwo Awoniyi up front.
