Nottingham Forest in talks with former Charlton striker Lyle Taylor

Nottingham Forest are in talks with former Charlton striker Lyle Taylor over a move to the City Ground.

Journalist Alan Nixon claims negotiations are taking place with Forest as  competition for the striker heats up.

Taylor scored 25 goals in all competitions last season to help the Addicks gain promotion from League One.

Lyle left Charlton last week after refusing to play for the club following the restart of the  Championship because he did not want to risk jeopardising a big move.

He has played for a number of clubs including AFC Bournemouth, Falkirk, Sheffield United, Partick Thistle and Scunthorpe United.

Nixon says that he would be ideal for what Sabri Lamouchi is after whether  they are in the Premier League or the Championship next season.

"Forest. Want Lyle Taylor. Free. Talks have begun. Keen on him for either diviision. Not done yet, but ideal for what Lamouchi wants," he Tweeted.

Speaking about his decision not play for Charlton as they battle to stay up, Taylor told Sky Sports in an interview: "I'm gutted at the way it's finishing, but I don't expect people to care. I know that once the damage is done it's irreparable and I don't really expect any sympathy.

"We are the first ones able to go back so that's difficult for footballers and football clubs. My reasons and concerns stem from my knee injury - it plays on the mind.

"It makes me think what would happen if I had an injury now that threatened the rest of my career. I'll be honest with you, it scared the life out of me.

"That's my honest reasoning. I know it won't sit well with people but it's been a very hard decision to make.

"I want to play to keep this team in the league; we have worked so hard to get here. But there is something in the back of my head that says if you get a serious injury the chance you have worked and dreamed of since you were six-years-old is gone.

"I'm not 26 or 27 - I'm 30 years old. The way I play, it puts me in positions that I could get seriously injured at any time."

The Reds are looking to bolster their firepower next season with Lewis Grabban their top scorer.

He bagged his 20th goal of the campaign yesterday as Sabri Lamouchi's side were held at Preston.
