Nottingham Forest 'in talks' over transfer as midfielder sets out clear stance

Hull City are reportedly holding 'talks' with Nottingham Forest over a loan deal for defender Harry Toffolo.

Toffolo has seen his opportunities limited under Steve Cooper having made just 10 appearances this season. Renan Lodi is currently Cooper's first choice for the left side of the Reds' defence, while Omar Richards, who is currently recovering from a leg fracture, will also provide competition at left-back.

According to our sister title HullLive, Forest would be willing to do business with Hull this month, before the window closes on Tuesday, January 31 (11pm). Although talks are ongoing, a decision reportedly lies with the 27-year-old.

Cooper's verdict

Head coach Steve Cooper admits Nottingham Forest have been left with a near-impossible task for next week’s semi-final second leg against Manchester United.

The Reds head to Old Trafford with a 3-0 deficit, having been well beaten in the first leg at the City Ground. Marcus Rashford found the net early on, with Wout Weghorst dealing a suckerpunch at the end of the first half, just as the hosts had started to come back into the game. Bruno Fernandes then increased United’s advantage late on.

Cooper was particularly frustrated with the manner and the timing of the goals conceded. But he still wants his team to approach next Wednesday’s tie in the right way.

“I think it is going to be incredibly tough. It was anyway, but you can times that by three now,” he said.

Transfer stance

Nottingham Forest are "seriously considering" a move for Inter Milan outcast Roberto Gagliardini in the January transfer window.

The Reds' interest in the midfielder emerged earlier this week and comes as Steve Cooper looks to further strengthen his squad. The club have already signed three new players this month in Gustavo Scarpa, Danilo and Chris Wood.

The 28-year-old is out of contract in the summer, meaning Forest could reach a pre-contract agreement with the player or sign him for a nominal fee before deadline day. According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via SportWitness ), Gagliardini would prefer to move now.

That's because he is reportedly out of favour at Internazionale and has admitted he has no prospect of getting regular minutes this season. Gazzetta claim he is "looking for a new adventure".

Looking ahead

Leeds United look set to be boosted by the return of Crysencio Summerville for next weekend's trip to Nottingham Forest.

Whites boss Jesse Marsch confirmed in his pre-Accrington Stanley press conference that he expects the young Dutchman to be in contention at the City Ground. Summerville has been out of action for each of Leeds' last three games in all competitions after picking up an ankle injury in the 2-2 draw at Cardiff City in the third round of the FA Cup at the start of the month.

The 21-year-old was in superb form for Leeds prior to the World Cup break, netting in four consecutive matches, including late winners against both Liverpool and Bournemouth. It has been more stop-start for him since the resumption of the season, though he did register a tidy assist in the 2-2 draw with West Ham United.

Marsch provided an update on his condition, as well as both Adam Forshaw and Archie Gray, who are set to be absent against Accrington and so face a race against time to be fit against Forest.
