Nottingham Forest 'in talks' over long-term contract for Brennan Johnson

Nottingham Forest are reportedly in talks with Brennan Johnson about the teenage talent’s future at the City Ground.

The 18-year-old has quickly impressed head coach Sabri Lamouchi, who has played him three times so far this term.

And, according to the Daily Telegraph, the Reds have started talks over a long-term contract for Johnson.

After catching the eye in pre-season, the Nigel Doughty Academy product made his debut for the club on the opening day of the campaign, coming off the bench in the 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

He made an appearance as a substitute again against Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup, then made his first start in the Garibaldi in the same competition as arch-rivals Derby County were thumped 3-0 last month.

Johnson signed a professional deal with Forest in the summer of 2018 and is regarded as one of the brightest prospects coming up through the ranks.

Boss Lamouchi said of him, after giving the midfielder his chance against the Rams: “He is under 18 and is just an unbelievable player with the right mentality.

“I said to him, like I say to all the players, ‘I don’t care about the age or the name’. He deserved to play.

“And for me, it was the right choice, without any doubt.”

Johnson has been on international duty this fortnight, scoring on his debut for Wales Under-21s against Belgium.
