Nottingham Forest are in “pole position” to sign Southampton striker Che Adams in January - but Championship rivals Leeds United are now said to have registered their interest.
The Reds had reportedly already made an offer to take Adams on loan next month, as boss Sabri Lamouchi looks to boost his attacking options.
Leeds were then linked with the 23-year-old, and Football Insider claim the Whites have taken things a step further by “registering their interest” after manager Marcelo Bielsa gave “the green light to pursue Adams”.
The report says: “Nottingham Forest are currently in pole position to take Adams on loan if Southampton give the go-ahead for their £15m summer signing to depart next month.”
It is said United are uncertain whether Arsenal will recall Eddie Nketiah in January and see Adams as a potential replacement.
The front man joined the Saints in the summer from Birmingham City, but has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League.
He has notched up 15 appearances so far this season without getting on the scoresheet, and has not started a league game since September.
Forest have been linked with a number of forwards ahead of the January transfer window, with a striker likely to be at the top of Lamouchi’s wish list.
