Nottingham Forest hoping for injury boost as Reds boss senses a change in his players

Injury latest

Nottingham Forest hope to have midfielder Samba Sow available for Monday night’s trip to relegation-threatened Middlesbrough.

But they continue to have others struggling with knocks - including striker Lewis Grabban (knee) and winger Sammy Ameobi (hip) - as the relentless nature of the Championship season takes its toll.

Sow has missed the last two games with the recurrence of a knee problem, but head coach Sabri Lamouchi expects him to join in training with his teammates over the weekend, ahead of facing Boro.

The Reds will head north on the back of their midweek victory at Cardiff City, but have two games in five days next week as Millwall visit the City Ground on Friday night.

Making progress

Head coach Sabri Lamouchi has sensed a “change in the mentality” of his Nottingham Forest players as the Championship season heads towards a defining period.

Eight months have passed since the 48-year-old took up post at the City Ground, for his first job in English football.

Fast forward the clock and he has learnt a lot about the Championship and his players, leading them to fourth in the table ahead of Monday’s trip to Middlesbrough.

Lamouchi says as a group they have made great strides in that period of time - with one final push to come.

Nostalgia trip

Joe Worrall is having a moment of nostalgia. He is discussing Nottingham Forest heroes of the past - his heroes.

And Worrall is well aware this current generation of Reds players have the chance to write their own names into club folklore.

There’s no disguising what it means to the centre-back to be part of a Forest team chasing promotion to the Premier League.

Opposition view

Middlesbrough boss Jonathan Woodgate believes Nottingham Forest deserve to be challenging for promotion to the Premier League.

The Reds are currently in fourth place in the Sky Bet Championship table, and take on Boro in their next match on Monday night.

Six points separate Forest from the automatic promotion places, and are six points ahead of Bristol City who are seventh and just outside the play-offs.
