Nottingham Forest hit with major injury blow ahead of Leeds United clash and relegation run-in

Steve Cooper has revealed Nottingham Forest forward Chris Wood will miss the rest of the season due to injury.

Wood, who previously played for Leeds United, only joined Forest from Newcastle United during the January transfer window.

He picked up a thigh injury in the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, and despite heading out on international duty with New Zealand, did not feature in their two friendlies against China.

The 31-year-old picked up another injury on international duty and will be absent for Forest's visit to Elland Road to face Leeds next week. He will then miss the Premier League run-in as the Tricky Trees aim to preserve their top-flight status.

Elsewhere, Serge Aurier, Andre Ayew and Gustavo Scarpa have picked up injuries during the international break, although Cooper is yet to set timeframes on their absences.

“Chris Wood is out for the season,” Cooper said in his pre-match press conference ahead of their home match against Wolves on Saturday. “He’s picked up an injury during the international break.

“Serge Aurier, André Ayew and Gustavo Scarpa have picked up some injuries over the break as well. We’re not sure how long they will be out for or what their availability will be for the next few games.

“Taiwo Awoniyi and Cheikhou Kouyaté are back in full training, and obviously Moussa [Niakhate] is back now having played the last game and then making his international debut for Senegal.

“It’s just something we have to deal with, we’ll put our focus into the players who are available and who are training ready to play the next game and commit to them guys.”
