Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper set for 'massive boost' against Barnsley

Nottingham Forest are set for a "massive boost" against Barnsley on Wednesday night after former Reds midfielder David Prutton backed them to beat the Tykes.

The Reds go into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Millwall at the weekend which was Steve Cooper's first game in charge since being appointed head coach.

Max Lowe's goal salvaged a point for the Reds and they will be looking to clinch all three when they make the journey to Oakwell.

And former Reds ace Prutton is backing the Reds to come away with the first win of Cooper's reign and feels they will emerge 1-0 victors.

The Sky Sports pundit said: "Valerien Ismael was always going to be a tough act to follow at Barnsley, and when you take into account the players that departed the club in the summer, you felt it could be a difficult season for Markus Schopp.

"Steve Cooper's reign at Nottingham Forest began with a draw on Saturday, and a victory here could potentially lift them out of the bottom three, which would be a massive boost. I fancy them to claim an important win."

Barnsley will have almost a full squad available for selection when they face Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.

Boss Markus Schopp has provided a positive update on the injury front as his side prepare to host the Reds at Oakwell in midweek.

Forest started their new era under manager Steve Cooper with a 1-1 draw at home to Millwall on Saturday. But they remain in the Championship relegation zone, with five points to their name.

Their next opponents have also been struggling for results. Barnsley have just three more points than the Reds and have only won once this term.

That has left Schopp under pressure, although he has had injury problems to deal with.

However, the Austrian saw Ben Williams, Josh Benson and Jordan Williams return to his matchday squad for the weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Blackpool, with Romal Palmer also pushing for a start after recovering from a minor injury.

Defender Mads Andersen and Carlton Morris are the only longer-term absentees who are not yet back in training.

“We want to win every game, and it’s something I said before the first game,” Schopp told the club website ahead of Wednesday night.
