Nottingham Forest have 'signed' creative midfielder due to complete transfer in January

Palmeiras midfielder Gustavo Scarpa has "signed a pre-contract agreement" with Nottingham Forest, according to a report in Brazil.

The 28-year-old will reportedly join the Reds in January once his contract with Brazilian giants Palmeiras comes to an end. Contracts in Brazil work differently to those in England - they expire on December 31, meaning players are free to negotiate pre-contract moves in summer, the same way out-of-contract players in England can do in January.

Scarpa, an attacking midfielder, has been an ever-present for Palmeiras in the Brazilian top flight. He has made 171 appearances over four years, scoring 29 goals.

Before that he spent four years with Fluminense, playing 151 times in the same league. In 2016 he was named the league's best player as Fluminense went on to lift the Primeira Liga trophy.

The year after, he earned his first and only cap for Brazil - his continuing form earning him a move to Palmeiras. He has won seven trophies with his current club, including the 2020 and 2021 Copa Libertadores.

According to Benjamin Back, a Brazilian sports presenter with over 1.2 million Twitter followers, Scarpa has agreed to join Forest in the new year with his current contract due to expire at the end of December.
