Nottingham Forest have 'good options' in attack, says Albert Adomah

Albert Adomah is keen to show he still has plenty to offer on the pitch with Nottingham Forest.

But, at 31, the winger hopes his experience will also help the next generation of wide men to flourish at the City Ground.

The former Aston Villa man wants to demonstrate his own abilities in the Garibaldi red, after becoming one of five new additions under Sabri Lamouchi.

But he says he is also hugely driven to help the likes of Arvin Appiah learn the nuances of wing play in the Championship, as the teenager starts out at the beginning of his career.

Adomah knows the value of mental strength and confidence - and hopes to help infuse some of those qualities into the next generation at the City Ground.

“I can only talk to the young players and encourage them, as much as I can,” said Adomah.

“Arvin in particular plays in the same position as me, so I can only help him by telling him about what I have learned playing in our position.

“I can talk to him about how to receive the ball, about body position and having confidence.

“With wingers, we have all been through the same thing - sometimes you are consistent, sometimes you have spells where you are inconsistent. It is just about trying to find a way to maintain your form; to perform to your best on a regular basis.

“It can be difficult sometimes. You can’t always beat everyone with skill in a game. It is about how you adapt to things during a game.

“I think I can use my experience to help the other wingers. I will do that if I can.”

With Adomah, Appiah, Sammy Ameobi, Joe Lolley, Matty Cash and Ben Osborn - although he remains the subject of strong interest from Sheffield United - in the dressing room, Forest have plenty of options in those wide positions.

And Adomah is looking forward to the prospect of a fight for places.

“There are some good options and it is down to the manager to select who will be in the attacking group,” said Adomah. “But it is healthy competition - that is always what I say.

“If everyone is doing their job, I am sure they will be selected and given the opportunity to help the team.

“We are all here to help the team and if we can all work together; if we can all be united, we will be okay.

“Lewis Grabban is a goal scorer and if he can score goals for us, we have a chance.

“If Sammy Ameobi can score goals for us, we have a chance. If Joe, myself and even the young boy Appiah can get a few as well, it will be good for everyone.

“It will be good for the team - and we have to work for the team.”

Adomah has been impressed by what he has seen from Forest’s young players in pre-season so far, with Toby Edser, Appiah, Brennan Johnson and Tyler Walker all having had an opportunity in friendly matches.

“They all did well and I am sure they will have impressed the gaffer,” he said. “When you are young, it is always good to impress the gaffer, particularly when it is a new manager, when everyone starts with a clean slate.

“I am sure if they can keep that up, the manager will keep selecting them.”
