Nottingham Forest have former Aston Villa goalkeeper 'watched'

Nottingham Forest have scouted Dundee United's highly-rated goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist, according to a report in Tuesday's Daily Record.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season in the Scottish Championship as Dundee United reached the play-off final, losing to St Mirren on penalties.

And the Scottish club are said to be set to open talks with him over a new deal amid growing interest, as he enters the final year of his contract.

An Aston Villa academy graduate, Siegrist has worked with O'Neill before and has had Football League loan spells with Burton Albion and Wycombe Wanderers as well as two seasons in the National League with Cambridge United and Solihull Moors.

The former Swiss Under-21s international made the switch to Scotland on a free transfer 12 months ago, following two seasons in his native Switzerland with Vaduz.

The report also links Premier League Crystal Palace and Championship Hull City with him.

Forest were last week linked with a move for Asmir Begovic.
