Nottingham Forest have 'bid rejected' for £2.5m-rated attacker

Nottingham Forest are said to have had a bid rejected for Antalyaspor attacker Paul Mukairu.

With deadline day looming, the Reds face a race against time to get their transfer business completed as they look to bolster their ranks.

Four new faces have been added so far, but boss Chris Hughton is eager for more signings to help turn his team’s form around amid a dismal start to the season.

Strengthening his attacking options continues to be a priority as Forest have once again struggled to find the back of the net.

Nigerian winger/forward Mukairu was said to be on their radar, but reports in Turkey suggest the club have seen a 2.3m euros (about £1.9m) offer turned down.

Turkish media outlet Ajansspor report Antalyaspor want 3m euros (£2.5m) for the 21-year-old, with a 25 percent sell-on clause included in any deal - with the Reds’ initial offer having included a 15 percent sell-on.

The report adds: “While it was learned that Antalyaspor did not want to take a step back from these figures, the offer of the English team remained below this.”

Talks are said to have been going on for the best part of a month, as Forest “insist on adding the Nigerian football player to its squad”.

Mukairu spent last term on loan at Anderlecht, where he bagged four goals and weighed in with four assists in 29 appearances - with the Belgian side having had an option to make his move permanent.

Hughton’s men are currently bottom of the Championship table, yet to register a point in four attempts ahead of Saturday’s meeting with arch-rivals Derby County.

After Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, the manager said of bringing in players: “We still need more signings - from where we were last season and the amount of players who left in the summer.

“We would of course like them in as quickly as possible, but it’s quite obvious a squad which needs more bodies.”
