Nottingham Forest handed transfer boost as target decision explained

Nottingham Forest believe they can “achieve something great” this season - and promising early transfer business has only added to the sense of optimism.

But winger Philip Zinckernagel has stressed nobody in the Reds squad will be getting ahead of themselves.

The Dane has been impressed with the club’s January additions so far, in Keinan Davis, Steve Cook and Richie Laryea, as Forest have wasted no time in strengthening their ranks.

And with the extra quality, Zinckernagel is confident there is plenty more to come from a team which is just six points below the play-offs ahead of Saturday’s trip to Millwall.

Transfer boost

Nottingham Forest could have received a boost in their pursuit of Derby County defender Lee Buchanan.

The Reds have previously been rebuffed in their attempts to prise the left-back away from their arch-rivals.

Asked about offers for his players, amid speculation about Buchanan, Rams boss Wayne Rooney last week said “absolutely ridiculous bids” have been turned down.

However, the Daily Mail report Derby players have today been told to speak to the club’s administrators if they want to leave Pride Park, in a change of stance.

Wallace plans

Jed Wallace will “100 percent” be included in Millwall’s matchday squad to face suitors Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Reds have been chasing the Lions winger’s signature this month, with two offers believed to have been rejected so far, as they aim to bolster their attacking options.

But it looks as though they will come up against him when they make the trip to The Den this weekend.

Wallace has been sidelined for the last few weeks with a quad problem. His last match was a 2-1 defeat at Peterborough United on December 11. However, he could make his comeback against Forest.

January masterclass

This has been a departure from past transfer windows, when Nottingham Forest have sometimes been scrambling to get deals done at the eleventh hour on deadline day.

And the encouraging, early business done at the City Ground is a result of meticulous planning by the Reds. It hasn’t happened by accident.

Before the January window opened, boss Steve Cooper had expressed his hopes of getting new signings in as soon as possible.

Three arrivals within the first two weeks, though, is quick work by anyone’s standards.

Forest were well aware of the difference being fast out of the blocks could make, and the advantage that could potentially give them over their rivals.
