Nottingham Forest handed transfer boost ahead of January window as update given on target

Nottingham Forest January target Rhian Brewster could play before the transfer window opens, in what could be a boost to the clubs hopes of signing him.

The striker has been linked with a move to the City Ground since the summer, but picked up an injury at the end of last month, meaning he has missed the last two Championship games.

Brewster has seen his fortunes at Sheffield United change since the appointment of Paul Heckingbottom, starting four of the last five league games under the new manager.

That comes after the 21 year-old was in and out of the squad in the early part of the season.

It was said that Brewster’s injury was severe, but a second look has given a more optimistic view with Heckingbottom giving the latest.

"His initial scan said it was bad. Then we got a second opinion, third opinion and it brought the timeframe down,” he told YorkshireLive .

"He's two to three weeks in and we are confident where he is in terms of his rehab. He's progressing and healing really well.

"He seems to be one of those who is a quick healer just from the change in his scans and how he is reacting. His symptoms that he's presenting are actually less severe than what the scan's showing.

"He could be back this year. It will be close, but we won't rush him with it being his hamstring.”

That will come as good news to Forest should they wish to pursue their interest in the 21-year-old when the transfer window opens next month.
