Nottingham Forest handed injury boost as boss responds to Grosicki question

Boss Chris Hughton is keeping his cards close to his chest on the chances of Kamil Grosicki coming to Nottingham Forest this month.

The Reds have had a long-standing interest in the West Bromwich Albion winger, and came close to signing him in the summer transfer window.

Terms had been agreed for a loan move, only for the deal to fall through amid a dispute about paperwork being submitted in time.

Grosicki has remained on Hughton’s radar, as the manager hopes to strengthen his attacking resources during January.

Injury update

Midfielder Luke Freeman has taken the first steps towards a comeback for Nottingham Forest, having returned to training this week.

The Sheffield United loanee has been sidelined since November due to a hernia problem which required surgery, with his last appearance for the Reds a 2-0 defeat at Barnsley.

It is likely to take at least a couple more weeks for Freeman, who has made 10 appearances so far this season, to build up his fitness before being available for selection.

But the fact he is edging closer to a return is welcome news for boss Chris Hughton, with the 28-year-old able to provide another attacking option when he is back.

Easy decision

Winger Anthony Knockaert says there was interest in him from elsewhere this month, but it was an “easy decision” to remain at Nottingham Forest.

The Fulham winger’s initial loan spell at the City Ground expired last week, after making the move on domestic deadline day last October.

An unnamed club from abroad was reportedly eyeing him up, but the Reds confirmed on Tuesday an extension had been agreed to hang on to him until the end of the season.

Manager Chris Hughton played an important part in his decision, according to Knockaert, with the duo having worked together before, at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Transfer stance

Plymouth Argyle are said to be in no rush to sell Nottingham Forest-linked striker Luke Jephcott.

The 20-year-old hot-shot has been in superb form this season, bagging 14 goals in 21 appearances for the League One side - including four in his last four games.

The Reds are apparently keeping an eye on the up-and-coming forward, with boss Chris Hughton keen to bolster his attacking resources in the January transfer window.

But it would reportedly take a “very substantial offer” to prise Jephcott away, with Argyle eager to hang on to their top scorer and prized asset.
