Nottingham Forest handed important message as Cooper and Co bid to get play-off bid back on track

Nottingham Forest old boy David Prutton has been looking at the Reds' New Year's clash with Barnsley.

And the midfielder turned Sky Sports pundit has predicted the outcome of the game, at the City Ground on Monday (3pm).

Forest will be looking to put two successive defeats behind them to get an unlikely play-off push back on track.

Steve Cooper's side lost to Middlesbrough and Huddersfield just when it seemed they were about to gatecrash the top-six party.

However, with the Tykes winless in their last eight games and fighting for their Championship survival in 23rd place, this could be just the game to see Forest get back to winning ways.

Prutton believes an 'impressive' Trentside team will come out on top, tipping them to claim all three points and keep a clean sheet in a 2-0 win.

"It's two defeats from two for Forest now, which is uncharacteristic given their impressive form since Steve Cooper took charge," Prutton wrote in his Sky Sports column. "But from sitting rock bottom of the table to being on the cusp of the top six in little over three months is superb, and testament to the work Steve is doing at the City Ground.

"That is in complete contrast to fortunes at Oakwell. Barnsley have won just twice all season and I have to say, I think this will be another routine victory for the hosts."
