Nottingham Forest handed huge promotion boost following crunch talks

Nottingham Forest's promotion hopes received a significant boost following the latest EFL talks, according to reports.

The League held a board meeting on Wednesday in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

The football season has been on hold since mid-March as a result of the pandemic.

Forest are fifth in the Championship table - in a play-off position - with nine games to go.

There has been plenty of speculation in recent weeks over how the campaign would be finished, including suggestions that the season could be declared null and void, or that the play-offs could be scrapped.

But according to The Mirror, the EFL is pressing ahead with plans to complete the remaining fixures, including play-offs.

The report suggests that the play-offs could be played behind closed doors at Wembley Stadium.

As it stands, Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion are in the two automatic promotion spots.

Joining Forest in the top-six are Fulham, Brentford and Preston North End.

It is reported that Championship could resume from June 6 - earlier than the Premier League, who are hoping to restart on June 12.

The EFL is set to take part in talks with the Government, Premier League and Professional Footballers' Association tomorrow (Thursday) in a bid to seek approval for their plans.
