Nottingham Forest handed fresh Championship prediction after first round of fixtures

The first weekend of the new Championship season is now complete, and already we have seen some eye-catching results.

Many teams across the division will have hopes of reaching the play-offs and achieving promotion, but for some teams the first weekend provided a reality check.

Birmingham City claimed a surprise win over play-off finalists Brentford, as they aim to get to grips with the sale of Ollie Watkins and a seemingly inevitable departure for Said Benrahma.

Elsewhere we saw Championship newcomers Watford, Bournemouth and Norwich all claim victories following their relegation from the Premier League.

Even though we have only seen each team play once, those at FiveThirtyEight have gone and predicted the final Championship table.

The respected statistics and analysis website has forecast the final standings in the Championship this season, based on a complex model which takes into account a host of factors.

They have crunched the numbers and predicted that Bournemouth and Watford will be the two sides automatically promoted to the top flight.

Into the play-offs and the site have tipped Norwich, Brentford, Stoke and Swansea to make up the play-off positions.

And down at the foot of the table, the prediction has seen Wycombe, Coventry and Sheffield Wednesday predicted to be the three clubs relegated to League One.
