Nottingham Forest handed fresh Anthony Knockert challenge as defender names key to survival

Fresh Knockaert twist

Nottingham Forest could face a battle to hold onto loanee Anthony Knockaert beyond January.

The winger may have played his final game for Forest in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Preston North End as his initial loan spell from Fulham expires today (Thursday). However, Knockaert is continuing to train with the club ahead of the weekend’s FA Cup third round tie against Cardiff City.

It is thought Forest are keen to extend the former Brighton player’s loan.

However, the Reds could face competition from an overseas club who are reportedly also keen to complete a loan deal for the Frenchman.

Christie on key to survival

Nottingham Forest defender Cyrus Christie believes that a settled side holds the key to the club getting themselves out of trouble in the second half of the season.

The full-back has been a consistent starter for Forest this season and has formed a partnership along the back with Yuri Ribeiro, Joe Worrall and Tobias Figueiredo, a quartet that is now bringing clean sheets.

“It is a lot harder. You want a back four to be consistent,” Christie said on a chopping and changing lineup.

“We’ve mostly had that but injuries have played their part. It’s more difficult to play with certain people than others because everyone has strengths and weaknesses.

“It’s about getting partnerships. When the person in front of you or the centre mids are changing, if you have consistency you get a relationship.”

Nottingham Forest ‘approach’ winger

Nottingham Forest have made an official approach to Anderlecht for young winger Francis Amuzu, according to reports.

SPORTSWorldGhana claim that Hughton is on the lookout for a right-winger and has identified the 21-year-old as an ideal target.

It is said that Forest have already made an ‘official approach’, but are yet to receive an answer from the Belgian club as they consider the offer.

It is said that the winger is priced at around €4 million (£3.6 million).
