Nottingham Forest have been handed a boost in their reported pursuit of Swedish international Martin Olsson.
On Friday the Sun claimed that the 31-year-old was set to hold talks with Steven Gerrard at Rangers with the Liverpool legend keen to make him a part of his plans at Ibrox
However, it has now emerged that the former Norwich defender, who is available on a free this summer, wants to stay in England and would favour that over a move north of the border.
Gerrard's side were said to be 'poised' to offer Olsson a deal, with Rangers short in that position following Lee Wallace's move to Queens Park Rangers.
The Reds were first linked with Olsson earlier this week by reports in Sweden, with Rangers and Fenerbache also named as interested parties.
Olsson only turned out 20 times for the Swans last season and has not played since before Christmas after he ruptured his Achilles.
If reports are to be believed, Martin O'Neill is in the market for a left-back with Dutch defender Caner Cavlan linked with a City Ground move earlier this window.
