Nottingham Forest hand Leeds United boost by targeting former Bristol City star at Aston Villa

Nottingham Forest are said to be leading the race to sign Jonathan Kodjia.

The former Bristol City star is out of contract at Aston Villa in the summer, and Birmingham Live report that Forest have enquired about his availability in January.

Despite mounting injuries up front, Villa could well be tempted to let the striker leave for cash rather than releasing him on a free in the summer.

Forest going after Kodjia also offers a twist to the rest of the Championship transfer window.

The Reds are keen to add a striker to their squad and have been interested in the same targets that Bristol City have looked at, such as Eddie Nketiah and Rhian Brewster, who subsequently moved to Swansea City.

They have also been competing with Leeds United for the likes of Dwight Gayle and Che Adams.

The chances of Gayle moving to the Championship at the moment seem remote, with Newcastle United reported to be requesting exorbitant wage contributions for their striker.

Yet, should Forest land Kodjia, then it could well give Leeds free run of the market in terms of the striker they are keen to sign.

Whilst it has been a quiet January transfer window so far, it could slowly be starting to take shape for Championship clubs.
