Nottingham Forest greats pay tribute to Diego Maradona after death of Argentina legend

Arguably football's greatest player, Diego Maradona, has died at the age of 60.

Maradona lit up the game as an attacking midfielder, captaining Argentina to their 1986 World Cup win. He would also manage his country.

The former Barcelona and Napoli player had been in ill health having been treated for a blood clot on the brain last month.

He was then treated for alcohol dependency.

Maradona famously scored the 'Hand of God' goal in the 1986 World Cup, when England were knocked out by Argentina, 2-1, with Maradona scoring both goals.

He opened the scoring by pushing the ball past Nottingham Forest legend Peter Shilton with his hand, before scoring a stunning solo goal to double the lead. Former Reds midfielder Steve Hodge also played in the game, famously swapping shirts with Maradona.

Shilton is yet to comment publicly, but former England internationals Stan Collymore and Viv Anderson have paid tribute on Twitter.

"The greatest player I've ever seen, by some way.The ultimate maverick personality, the ultimate football legend.Rest in peace, legend," Collymore wrote.

"The football Gods shone brightly in this one. What an incredible, incredible footballer."

Anderson said: "For me one of the Best players who ever lived! A true titan of the game! RIP legend."
