Nottingham Forest great said to be 'itching' for management return

Nottingham Forest great Roy Keane is said to be interested in a return to management.

The Irishman has stuck to TV punditry since leaving his role as Reds assistant manager to Martin O’Neill in June 2019.

But The Sun claim he has told friends he is “itching to be a boss again and get the day-to-day involvement at a club that he is missing”.

GARIBALDI RED: "If there's one area I could improve right now, I'd be going after a No. 10"

Former Forest midfielder Keane returned to the City Ground two years ago, linking up again with O’Neill after the pair had worked together with the Republic of Ireland national team.

He has also been a No.2 at Aston Villa, as well as being manager of Sunderland and Ipswich Town.

But when not in the game, he has enjoyed success as a TV pundit, currently working for Sky Sports.

However, The Sun say former club Manchester United could offer him “a route back into the game” in a coaching role.

The 49-year-old is said to have paid visits to the Premier League giants, dropping by their training ground to speak to some of the younger players.

The report adds, though, that news Keane “would return to the dugout is bound to spark interest in many places”.
