Nottingham Forest great Peter Hindley dies aged 76

Nottingham Forest great Peter Hindley has died at the age of 76.

The right-back played 366 times for Forest between 1962 and 1973 and was a mainstay of the team which finished second in Division One in 1967.

Speaking on the Garibaldi Red podcast last week, Reds legend Ian Storey-Moore said Hindley was a fearsome competitor on the pitch.

"Every team had players who put it about," he said.

"Every side had four or five. You had to have mental courage. You knew defenders were about.

"Peter Hindley was tough as old boots for us. No one messed with him. Big Frank Wignall and Peter were the instigators who bred fear in the opposition.

"Henry Newton could look after himself too."

After leaving Forest, Hindley, who was nicknamed Tank, went on to play for Coventry City, Peterborough United and Burton Albion.

Once his career ended, Hindley owned greyhounds and worked as a painter and decorator. He had been suffering with dementia before his death today.
