Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Luke Steele 'snubbed' Manchester City move

Luke Steele turned down the chance to move to Premier League champions Manchester City, according to reports.

The Nottingham Forest goalkeeper opted to join Championship rivals Millwall on deadline day until January instead of linking up with Pep Guardiola’s side.

According to the Sun, Steele snubbed the chance of a move to the Etihad where he would have provided cover to Ederson and Claudio Bravo, with City instead turning to Scott Carson, who incidentally, had been attracting interest from Forest prior to the arrival of Brice Samba on Wednesday.

It’s understood that the 34-year-old preferred a loan move to The Den as he seeks regular football having made just seven appearances for the Reds since his summer move 12 months ago.

Lions goalkeeper Frank Fielding is out injured and Steele will compete with ex-Notts County goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski for the number one spot.

Carson meanwhile, admitted his move to Manchester was a dream come true, having been linked with a move across the East Midlands.

“It’s an honour to have signed for City on loan,” the ex-England stopper said after penning his year-long deal.

“It’s something I didn’t expect but an opportunity I simply could not turn down. To be part of this squad – the Champions of England – is a dream come true.

“I can’t wait to see Pep’s work on the training field up close. What he has achieved in his management career has been amazing, and it’s every player’s dream to play under him.

“Hopefully, my experience will prove useful as we try and make it three Premier League titles in a row.”
