Nottingham Forest given clear play-off precedent after EFL meeting

League One clubs are set to vote on how their season should finish next week with points per game and completing all outstanding fixtures  the two options available to them. .

The English Football League (EFL) board met on Wednesday afternoon to discuss a wide range of issues following talks with clubs of all three divisions over the past week.

All 23 League One clubs met via a conference call last week in the hope of coming to a decision on how to end the campaign.

Nottingham Forest will be watching with interest as Sabri Lamouchi 's side eye a Championship play-off place.

They are in fifth place with nine games to go having spent the season challenging for promotion.

Forest are five points clear of Bristol City in seventh and were battling Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion for automatic promotion as recently as February.

The desired outcomes for League One ranged from 'null and void' to ending the season using points-per-game and playing the remaining fixtures.

In the end, sides did not come to an agreement, despite League Two clubs unanimous voting to end their league season just hours later, and will meet again later this week

And now it appears that an agreement has still not been reached, and a vote will take place to determine whether or not clubs should aim to complete the current campaign.

Writing on Twitter, John Percy of The Telegraph said: “Latest on League One: will go to a vote on how the season finishes. Promotion/play-offs/relegation decided by PPG (points per game) or complete the games. Vote is likely to be next week.”

It has already been established that Forest will finish in the play-offs if the season is decided by PPG.

If the campaign continues, Forest would likely secure a top-six spot barring a disastrous run of form.

League Two Clubs unanimously voted to curtail their current campaign in line with the framework outlined by the EFL Board last week.

While clubs have also asked for consideration to be given to suspending relegation to the National League for 2019/20 as a result of circumstances created where fixtures cannot be completed.

But it is not yet known whether those motions have been ratified by the EFL board.
