Nottingham Forest given chance to seal play-offs spot if EFL follows this plan

German football's governing body has tonight announced the resumption of the top two tiers of competition later this month.

The Deutsche Fussball Liga (DFL) has confirmed widely reported plans to end the suspension of football in Bundesliga and the League below later this month.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel made the decision earlier today, along with regional chiefs, that the country is at a stage in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic where football can resume.

The English Football League (EFL) remains suspended, with Nottingham Forest playing their last match on March 6, a 3-0 defeat to Millwall at the City Ground that left them in fifth place.

This news will be of interest for Sabri Lamouchi 's side as they look to secure their place in the play-offs and a shot at promotion to the Premier League.

However, this doesn't automatically mean the EFL will follow their German counterparts' lead.

Germany has recorded 6,993 deaths against 168,000 confirmed cases, while the United Kingdom have registered 30,706 deaths with 201,000 confirmed cases.

"Today's decision is good news for Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2," DFL chairman Christian Seifert said, confirming matches will be held without fans.

"It is associated with a great responsibility for the clubs and their employees to implement the medical and organisational requirements in a disciplined manner.

"Matches without stadium spectators are not an ideal solution for anyone.

"However, during this crisis, which threatens the existence of some clubs, it is the only option to preserve the leagues in their present form.

"Today I'd like to thank the decision-makers at the state and federal level for placing their confidence in us."
